Mr. Md Abul Kalam started his career as a Program Officer in Caritas Bangladesh in 1989. Then he worked as a Program Coordinator in the same organization until his resignation in 1993. Later, he joined as an Assistant Director in Bangladesh Bank. He worked in different positions in many important departments like Banking Regulation and Policy Department, Financial Integrity and Customer Services Department, Human Resources Department, Forex Reserve and Treasury Management Department etc. of Bangladesh Bank. He worked as an Observer in Padma Bank Plc and also in Islami Bank Bangladesh Plc. He won the Integrity Award, a prestigious award of Bangladesh Bank, as the General Manager of Bangladesh Bank Sylhet Office. In Bangladesh Bank, he worked as the Officer-in-Charge of the Asian Clearing Union. He retired from Bangladesh Bank as the Director (FRTMD). He worked as a General Manager in Islamic Bank Foundation (IBF) for 1 year after he had left Bangladesh Bank.

Mr. Md Abul Kalam completed his graduation from Bangladesh Agricultural University, Mymensingh. He completed his MBA in Banking and Finance from Northern University Bangladesh. He participated in many training courses, seminars, symposia, conferences and workshops home and abroad.
